Re: 1968 Scout 800 - 266/T18/D20

Congrats! I trust you'll be reviving that long dormant engine very cautiously and carefully.

Re: 66 Travelall 1100a 4*4 304V8 - amp meter

Cleanliness is next to Godliness when it comes to electrical systems. Wiring junctions and terminations should be free of corrosion and accumulated schmootz. All connections should be snug. There...

Re: 68 Scout 800, 152ci 4cyl, hesitates during acceleration

Are the fittings on the pump marked at all, ie "inlet" and "outlet"? If you disconnect the line at the carb end and crank the engine over briefly, does gas spurt out?

Re: IH 234 Freeze plug questions

Didn't catch that this was a tractor on the first go 'round. Not sure that makes any difference, assessment wise though. Its still an engine with motor oil and coolant. The best ways for those to...

Re: IH 234 Freeze plug questions

Coolant mixing with oil is usually a blown head gasket. It wouldn't be a freeze plug issue.

Re: 66 International Travelall 1100a

Yeah, me too! Lemuel, my 1973 1210 pickup, rolled off the line with that setup, but it sadly disappeared well before I took possession of the truck. Those bucket seat with center consoles are dang...

Re: Correct thermostat for 152 ci, 4cyl.

The stock gauges shouldn't be trusted too much until they've been checked against some other measuring device, either an aftermarket gauge or an infrared thermometer in the case of the temp gauge. ...

Re: 66 1100a 4x4 Travelall - All Drum - Pulls to The Right

Did you use a drum caliper to measure each drum diameter and then adjust the shoes to match? It could be that you got the adjustment a little off on one or more sets. I'm not a brake expert. Just...

Re: Need help!

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure we can help you resolve your issue, but to do so, we're going to need a little more detail and clarity from you first. What piece broke exactly? Was it the switch in...

How's the condition of your drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders all around?

Re: Bent Tie Rod Ends

I suppose so. That's one thing I haven't done much of. Could be the reason why a lot of rock buggies modify to full hydro ram assist steering and go away from the old push-pull design. Your rock...

Re: Bent Tie Rod Ends

In my experience, when that stuff bends or gets tweaked, it is the direct result of an impact. There really isn't that much stress on those components outside of smacking on rocks or stumps.

Re: Engine fires over but as soon as I let go the key engine dies

Thanks for updating. It's important that the length of that resistor wire not be modified. It should look a good deal longer than what you would actually need to span the distance between the...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

The single wire coming out of the distributor goes to the coil NEGATIVE terminal. The tach feed will also go there.

Breaker points will over heat and eventually burn out if they are subjected...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

Yes, the condenser for the points always mounts inside the distributor. The item you've seen attached to some coils is a noise suppression capacitor meant to eliminate the interference heard through...

Re: Change 1977 345 to Prestolite points distributor?

Yes it should. Just curious as well about the why? Was something not working with your present setup?

Re: Engine fires over but as soon as I let go the key engine dies

You can temporarily rig a jumper wire from the battery positive to the coil positive and see if that gets you lit off. It is very important that you DO NOT leave this jumper hooked up any time the...

Re: Cluster F**k

I guess I'm not seeing the plug overheating. I see that most of them have a tannish-brown appearance, which is good. I see that one or two appear to be fuel or oil fouled.

Re: 392 non ic

There were certainly enough reported complaints of cylinder hot spotting with the non-ic 392 engines in medium duty applications by 1971 to prompt the revamp around 1972. Anything that costly to the...

Re: 392 non ic

It isn't just the block. The heads are the biggest difference. The non-IC engines, including all 266, 304 and 345 sizes, are made to work with the plumbing as originally designed. Changing stuff...

Re: Replace or rebuild Holley 1920 on 232

You might have better luck searching AMC enthusiast forums. Yes, its an IHC vehicle, but the engine is not IH. Answers to questions like these can be a numbers game and the numbers on an IH...
