Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

Don't worry too much about a 90A alternator replacing a 65A unit. They only put out as many amps as needed. In other words, if the truck needs 22 amps to go down the road, the alternator will only...

Re: holley 4bbl carbs

4BBL Scout IIs came stock with Carter Thermoquad carbs. Holleys were on square bore 392s in the bigger trucks.

Re: Ammeter amp rating?

The alternator is analogous to the ignition coil...it only puts out enough to get the job done. So a 150 amp alternator by itself does not present any danger as long as the load doesn't exceed the...

Re: Colorad Body Swap

Those are some tremendous pics! Love the Scout. Awesome color combo. I have slides of me and my brother and family camping/cruising the Ouray/Telluride area ca. 1975 in our Scout. I'll have to...

Re: Freebie

Sorry Pat, it went to a guy down in San Diego. Just so you know, it came to me without the kickdown linkage, so you'd have been outta luck there anyway.
I'll have to pull that listing.
Best of...

Re: courtesy lights under dash

I found some LED license plate lights that are super bright. Can't remember where I found them, but check Amazon or eBay. I'm sure you'll find something.

Re: unhooked my horn now i have no lights??

This may help with the dash lights. Its what I made up when I did a Kwikwire job on my '79. Still applies to a stock harness, but obviously the circuit numbers will be different.
Have fun! And...

Re: neutral safety wiring question

Yes, you'll need that wire connected to the solenoid. #19 right?
If you had an automatic trans, the neutral safety switch would only pass power to the solenoid when the shifter was in park or...

Re: Free 727

As in the Nut and Bolt supplier? They ship freight? Or am I totally missing something?
I have heard the Greyhound method. Never tried it though.

Re: Free 727

Its days are numbered. I have a 66 Nova that's taking all my time right now, and when that's done, that 727 is going to be right in the way.
If anybody even thinks they might need it, speak up. ...

Free 727

If anyone in the LA area needs a good core 727, let me know. If I was in a pinch, I'd probably change the filter and fill it with oil and run it. It came attached to a 345 I broke apart a year ago....

Re: Gas Filler neck for smog

Richard, I'm not sure you can even buy leaded fuel anywhere anymore, so I don't think that neck is going to be a prob. I'd stop by a smog station and ask to be sure.
The thing that nailed me was...

Re: edelbrock 1905 and ca smog

I've been running a Q Jet on my '79 for 5 years. Several different smog shops have tested it, and no one either knows or cares that its not the T-Quad it should be. All of the vacuum lines and evap...

Freebie

Who needs a 727 trans? Its taking up space and want it gone.
Crusty and grungy on the outside, but fluid looks good, and there are no signs of abuse. Converter looks good. Might be a runner,...

Re: diving into a 345 rebuild.

Line bore is tricky on a gear-drive cam motor like these. You'll be moving the crank closer to the cam. This isn't a problem with a chain or belt driven cam, but it will change the clearance in...

Re: edelbrock 1406 to carter TQ

For all I know, the smog guys might let the 1406 pass. Most of them don't see enough carbs these days to know the diff. And btw, there's nothing wrong with a t-q when its working properly (not...

Re: edelbrock 1406 to carter TQ

I've been passing socal smog for 10 years with the same '79/345 combo using a q-jet. Find one with a passenger side fuel inlet, and a fuel bowl vent (its tight round the thermostat housing).
As...

Re: They fall into my lap

That's a cool rig!
Be careful of those super diggers though...they've been out of production for at least 10 years. I had one come apart on the freeway some years back and really did a number on...

Re: 345 to straight 6 swap

Only the diesel scouts could hit 20 mpg. A non IH power plant might be in your future if that's your goal. A 152 in a '64 model 80 can't get there. Like trever says, no IH will win a mpg...

Re: 345 to straight 6 swap

Dude, 10-12 mpg with 345, t-19, 3.73s and 33s is what I do on my '74.
The '79 has a 7004r conversion, 3.54s (too tall) and 33s and does 14 on the freeway. 3-6 mpg is some kind of joke, right?

Re: Ignition Electrical Troubles

That is a decent idea if you're going back to a carb. The distributor in its current state will not be suitable.
That being said, no spark is still no spark. If your current setup doesn't work,...

Re: Spring over axle conversion

This is a SUA rig with 4" Skyjacker springs, 1" shackles, and 33s. Goes anywhere we want to go. Its about as hard core as I want to go with it. Bigger (37-40") tires would need more clearance,...
