Re: Transfer case fluid change?

Since you say "it is running smoother now" I am assuming it all functioned OK before the oil change? Please see the shift pattern below for the dana 20 single stick (I'm assuming it's a D20). Only...

Re: ID 1966 Scout 800 Transmission

Ok, never had the top cover off the T18 in my 72 Scout. From what I've read, wide Scout T18s (6.32:1 first gear) are pretty rare. If it is a T98, it should have a very deep 6.39:1 first gear.

Re: ID 1966 Scout 800 Transmission

What is the history of this transmission, did it come out of the 66 Scout 800? Was it running? They came with 3 speeds or 4 speeds. Looks like the one in your pictures is short a gear for a 4 speed....

Re: running too cool

Has this been a problem for awhile, or did it begin when it started to get cold up there in Truckee? I used to run three row core radiators in my 510's, and had to cover part of the radiator opening...

Re: Proper Clutch Identification

See if you have an access cover on the bottom of the bell housing. Both my 75 with a 258, and my 72 with a 345 have them. After taking it off you should be able to see what is going on with the throw...

Re: Proper Clutch Identification

The GL5 most likely has sulfur in it which attacks the bronze parts. The T19 weighs in at 160 and the Dana 20 at around 60. I run Redline MT 90 in both. If you have any leaks they will tend to leak...

Re: Repair Shop needed near Mtn View

Symptom indicates a large vacuum leak.I would look for a broken or open vacuum line/hose/plug. You are looking at hoses other than gas or water that come off the base of the carburetor, EGR valve, or...

Re: Proper Clutch Identification

Need it installed so that the springs in the center of the disk are furthest from the bolts that mount the flywheel to the crankshaft. Mine was installed backwards by the PO, and the clutch disk...

Re: Proper Clutch Identification

If your 3 speed set up is all stock, I would think it is an adjustment issue with peddle height. There should be an adjustable length rod going from inside the cab, through the floorboard and to the...

Re: T19 transmission

800 sounds a little high, but the groove I see around the splines on the input shaft indicate it is probably a wide T19, which makes it a little more desirable. You can verify by getting it in first...

Re: Side Marker Light Delete/ Causing Rear Park Light Failure????

I've used a fine wire toothbrush on the mail pins, and a fine needle file in the female sockets. If you see any of the female sockets really opened up, you can also use the tip of the needle file to...

Re: dana 20 strength

It should be plenty strong. If you want to read up on it, visit Novak Conversions, they have a good write up on it. A heavy duty output shaft kit would be a good idea. If you can get your hands on a...

Re: Dana 27 vent

If you run a lot of lift, it is advantageous to rotate the rear pumpkin so the pinion points at the output of the transfer case allowing you to run a CV type u-joint at the transfer case end of the...

I have a 72 Scout with drums in front and a 75 Scout with discs in front. The wheels/rims from my drum break scout will not clear the calipers on my disc brake Scout

Re: 1976 Scout Starting Problems

Since you were able to start it when you got it, I doubt this problem is why it was parked. Were you able to get it to turn over using the key? Being able to jump the starter says the starter is...

It doesn't appear to have melted. I had one of those do the same thing sitting in a box in the garage- made a mess of some other stuff in the box. Whatever epoxy they used to pot the electronics just...

Re: Fuel hose sizes

If the 2" filler hose from the gas tank to the filler neck has never been replaced you probably want to order one of those as well. They tend to get pretty brittle after 40 or so years.

Re: Vaper Recovery Chamber 74 Scout 2

It is an expansion tank. The gas from underground tanks is typically much colder than ambient temperature, so if you fill the tank completely full, the gas can expand, and the expansion tank gives it...

Re: Ignition Switch Culprit?

Can you watch the actuator rod while you are turning the key? If the rod is not moving, the problem is probably the sector gear and other parts in the top of the steering column. If the rod looks...

Re: 74 scout 2 lock position for key power stiil on?

If I recall correctly, the actual ignition switch is located down near the bottom of the steering column inside the truck. There is a long skinny rod type thingy that goes from the key lock in the...

Ok, that is still pointing to the switch. Since you can manually jump the hot wire coming into the switch to one of the other positions on the switch and get the starter to work, it sounds like the...

Re: Scout 80 no start with key

Hi Willy, is the new switch you installed an ignition switch, or just an on off switch? Needs at least on, off, and start positions to engage the starter. Another thing to check is the wire going...
