? about build number

I would like to find out what number Scout II that I have in the grand scheme of things. It is a 71 and according to the paperwork from when it was ordered by the dealer (late March of 71) that would put it right there in the sweet spot of when the Scout iis were first offered to the public in the spring of 71. Is there a site? Or some decoding on the vin# or build sheet that would reveal this info?

The serial number is located on the data plate/sticker.

The fedgov mandated "vin" numbers were not utilized by IH until the 1981 model year, after the demise of Scout II (1980) and light line (1975) vehicle production.

and what thought the build # would be is on the LST listed in the line sequence no. Box ( d 5340 ) but just not sure that is it....... I have all the original paperwork, from the dealers order sheet, the LST, the options delivery page, all original manuals and tags. 67,000 original miles.I got a sweetheart of a deal on the rig

I think the wood chuck is not sure what you want. Pick up the phone and call Jeff, explain to him what you want cuz I have no idea. Then I hope you can move forward. IH keeps no born on date for lack of a better term. If you want a clear date one can only hope it is listed on the LST.
