Default 72 Scout II Coil Wiring - Newbie Question

Good Day Everyone,

My Scout has a 304 and I was replacing the Coil with a MSD Blaster Coil and Ballast Resistor. When I went to disconnect the old coil things seemed to be wired backwards.

The Primary Ignition wire was on the Negative (-) side while the Distributor & Alternator were on the positive side (+). Why would this have been done this way?

The truck is run as a daily driver and I haven't experienced any odd electrical problems but the MSD requires the Primary ignition on the Positive Side (+) and the Coil/Distributor on the Negative (-).

MY question to my fellow Scout enthusiast is do you know of any reason I could not wire the coil as instructed by MSD.

Thanks In advance.

I would wire it as specified. I can't explain the reasoning behind the backasswards wiring of the prior coil or how that would even work. Coils have polarity markings for a reason. If it didn't matter, you could hook up a coil any damn way you pleased.

Scout B,

Thanks for your response and we are both thinking the same way. I'm surprised it runs as well but plan on wiring it the way it's specified and should have been in the first place.

I'll update the thread once I've finished installing the new coil.
