I'm curious about his observation also. I wonder if if could be a combination of the lighting and camera angle playing some optical trickery?

That is a normal dual plane or 180 degree manifold. One barrel feeds every other cylinder in the firing order.

One barrel has a shorter bore than the other.

The intake manifold looks normal to me.
My 4-V spread-bore is the same, and is a dual plane as well.
I believe all SV-8 intake manifolds are dual plane style.
Right venturi feeds cylinders: 2, 3, 5, 8.
Left venturi feeds cylinders: 1, 4, 6, 7.

I was able to get everything hooked up today excluding the choke because it is on the opposite side of the carb now. I'll have to buy a generic choke cable to make it work then worry about finding a longer IH choke cable and replace. 2/3 trips to hardware store and local auto parts for various parts but NBD really. It sure looks good. Tomorrow she gets to start up and we'll go from there.
