Default edelbrock 1400 from 1406 on 345

i'm swapping out my 1406 for a 1400. i need to tune the 1400 and can't seem to find a calibration chart. i have the chart and kit for the 1406, by chance is it the same? or, where can i find a chart? thanks.

You might try searching for an edelbrock forum, or perhaps a hotrod forum where both carb models are commonly used. You could be waiting awhile for an answer on this forum.

i think and this is going off of memory from 20 years ago when i had a 1400. i remember the 1400 being a carb made for 1980 GM V-8's and it was supposed to be pre calibrated and there isnt a chart made for it.

correct me if i am wrong

also aren't the 1400 and 1406 the same except for the large front vacuum port ?

it was supposed to be pre calibrated
My understanding is similar on this. To be 50 state legal, they state in the installation instructions it's a pre-set deal kinda scenerio.

thanks guys, this makes sense.

please tell me if this should be a concern, i'm at about 6000' feet, do you think that think will be running lean? i suppose lean is good for emissions. i just don't want that motor running too hot.

i'll mount it up the way it is and see how it runs.

Use the chart for the 1406. The only difference is the metering rods and 1406 is non-EGR. I used the chart for the 1406 and my 1400 runs great. It also helped tremendously I have a wide band O2 sensor and I bought the calibration kit. I just kept adjusting until I got it the way I wanted it.

Good luck,

thanks. i was thinking they are basically the same carb. i passed CA smog today. i'll see how it runs for a while and then determine if i need to make any changes.

the only issue i have is that i used the adapter plate to go from spread bore to square bore which added 0.85" to the stack height. so now the top of my air cleaner just touches the hood. minor issue i guess.

so the 1400 seems to running pretty well at 6000'. i've been driving around town, not really stop and go, but 25-40 mph and short trips. the temps stay down. the smog tech had to lean it out a bit when running the test. had a little dieseling at shut down, now that is gone. i think the 1400 will be fine as is.

The 1400 is a 600cfm with egr capabilities. It comes from the factory with the same jets as the 1406, however the metering rods are .073x.047 instead of of .075x.047. It also uses the orange step up spring instead of the yellow one. The 1400 therefore comes with a slightly richer cruise circuit (aka economizer circuit) and it the power circuit will come in a bit sooner because the orange springs are stiffer than the yellow and it takes more vacuum to overcome them and activate the cruise circuit.

A big question is, are you actually USING the EGR. If not, then jet it just like your 1406 and your good to go. They are essentially the same carb.
