Also have a slight update to the original problem, it seems that the silly routing of the fuel line was causing vapor lock to some extent as the radiator was basically boiling the fuel as it passed.

We are rerouting that and check the carb today, along with the other issues mentioned.

I could see that being a potential problem. Vaporized fuel will shut you down quickly. The fuel pump can't pressurize vapor.
