![]() We started doing some work on Jamie's 1978 Nissan diesel powered Scout back in January of 2010. This Scout started as a non-turbo powered diesel with stock suspension. We started initially with some suspension work as the current suspension had seen better days and will start the build here.
Here's the Scout in its stock form sitting on jack stands prior to the tear down. As you can see the suspension was in sad shape with a broken main leaf spring. Next the leaf spring were removed both front and rear. Followed by the front spring hangers as a reverse shackle kit is going to be installed. A lay out of the parts to be installed. We have 2.5" Rough Country leaf springs, CPT reverse shackle kit, CPT SUA Ubolt plate kit w/ 5/8" ubolts and some real smooth riding Bilstein shocks. We always start the install of our reverse shackle kits by first assembling the front spring hangers. This makes installation much easier and more accurate.

![]() The front hangers are welded in and leaf springs installed.
Once installed everything is painted. While we had the rear axle apart we fixed a issue known well to these Scout's and that is a bent axle housing. An alignment bar is inserted thru the housing using the center line of the mock carrier bearings. The end of the axle housing is cut off and then welded back on in order to put everything back on center. With the housing straightened out it was reassembled and installed back in along with the new springs and shocks. Here's the Scout with it's new upgraded suspension.

![]() Then in July Jamie brought the Scout back up for another round of upgrades. The front bumper had a winch mount and guard added to it.
On-board air was installed. Rocksliders, corner guards and a custom rear bumper were fabricated as well. ARB's and lower axle gears were installed. Here's the rear tire carrier all decked out with spare tire, gas can, hi-lift jack, chainsaw and license plate holder/light. Looking real good with all it's new bumpers and sliders!

![]() In the first picture you can see how the bumper was originally. We cut the top hoop off of it and then added in the new hoop and winch mount. Otherwise yes we could make another one. If interested please call for a quote.

![]() A few weeks ago jaime brought the Scout back to us for another round of upgrades. He also brought us this beautifully rebuilt sd33t Nissan turbo diesel to put in place of the aging naturally aspirated one that had racked up many a mile.
These engines come with new injector pumps and turbo and are full of oil as they have been test ran before being shipped. The Scout was pulled into place and the swap began. After a few hours the old power plant was hanging from the hoist. With the new replacement engine nearby all needed parts were transferred from the old engine to the new. With the parts transferred over the engine was readied for install. Up and over! And all bolted in!

![]() With the new engine it was time for some performance goodies. Darren fabricated a custom cold air intake for the new engine as cold air flow into a diesel is critical in keeping exhaust gas temps in check.
Mandrel bent 3" exhaust tubing was used to creat the custom intake. A hole is cut right behind the headlight area so that the cone air cleaner can get as much fresh cool air as possible. A little closer look. With the intake side of the engine done it was time to move onto the exhaust side. Darren fabbed up a nice free flowing 2 1/2" exhaust system that should keep things flowing efficiently. A flex joint was installed to keep the exhaust system flexible within the chassis. A nice big free flowing muffler will keep the noise levels in check while making as much power as possible. The tail pipe was routed and trimmed to help prevent it from getting smashed. Between the bumper and side guard it is fully protected.

![]() Another upgrade while the Scout was here was a 1800 watt power inverter.
1 gauge battery cables were carefully routed. Something that we did not show you earlier was the air tank for the on-board air system so here it is. Currently the Scout is waiting for a custom built fuel filter that will encompass a fuel heater, water separator and electric priming pump. More on the filter once it arrives and we get it installed so stay tuned!

![]() Where did you get that rear bumper and rear corner guards? I really like the chainsaw mount, I could use something like that.

![]() Just as the build up says we fabricated these items in house. If you are interested in custom fabricated items like what seen here it is best to call our sales office to go over options and rough pricing.
