Another day and more work on the wall.

Willy, Darren and I setting the last block.

Not bad for some guys who do not do this for a living.

With the wall finished and the Sierra Fall Rallye coming up the next weekend we needed to get the driveway rocked before guests came over.

Here willy tends to another tree that was dropped in order to make room for the new driveway.

The metal building was delivered and put off to the side.

Large ridge vents were ordered so that we could easily ventilate the building.

At this point we were nearing the beginning of November. With winter storms on the horizon progress was definitely going to slow down so it was time to hire in some help. With a phone call to an old family friend who owns a huge concrete company in the sacramento area a crew was sent out to begin the work on the shops foundation. Let me say these guys work fast! So fast that I was only able to take pictures in the start of each day as with daylight savings here its always dark by the time I get back up here. These next set of pictures were all taken within a 9 day period.

So on the morning of Tuesday November 10 I met with west-cal concrete's superintendent bill. We discussed the layout of things and then I headed off to run some errands. When I got back there was already a backhoe out digging the footings. I then headed down to the shop for my daily duties. When I got back later that day all the footings were dug and a huge pile of form boards were delivered. The following morning a crew was set out to set up the forms.

Thursday morning and the majority of the forms were up. This is the lowest corner of the shop and required some additional forms.

Back at the shop Darren fabricated a floor anchor to go in the new shops floor. This will allow us to winch non-running vehicles in without much trouble.

On Thursday and Friday morning all the rebar was installed in time for an inspection from the county.

Lots of rebar here. Amazing how fast these guys got all this rebar installed.

They even did a superb job of setting our anchor in place.

On Sunday I spent the afternoon notching the wall for the last two pieces of rebar.

From above the wall you can see the layout of things.

On Monday November 16 the west-cal crew poured the footings for the shop. A huge overhead concrete pump was brought in.

Stepping back you can see how this pump truck has for reach.

No these guys aren't coming to kick my ass for taking their picture, they're actually walking around checking all the forms one last time before the pumping of concrete begins.

And the pumping begins!

The guy in the middle holding a joystick pad is trent. He operates the pump truck by remote control working side by side with the west-cal crew.

A view from up above.

Trucks are lining up waiting to offload. After this I had to leave down to the shop for my daily duties.

When I got back this is what I found. All footings poured and most of the form boards stripped off. Again the speed at which these guys work is mind blowing.

They even got a good puddle of concrete poured over our floor anchor.

A view from below the shop.

On Tuesday the crew came back and stripped some more of the forms. They also got the pad graveled, installed a vapor barrier, covered it in sand and finally installed a grid of rebar. These pictures were taken on Wednesday morning after a rain storm had passed by hence why everything is wet.

Plumbing was installed for a future bathroom.

Electrical and water stub outs were also installed.

With the next phase ready for pour and inspection passed the west-cal crew came back on Thursday November 19 for a long hard days work.

The crew started the day by filling the retaining wall.

Again you can see trent the pump truck operator very close by running the controls by remote control.

I thought it was cool that the trucks boom was as high as this pine tree so I took a picture.

This truck reminds me of the transformer optimus prime. Pretty cool how the suspension is just hanging there.

More trucks rolling in for offload.

Here the guys are finishing up on the wall.

With the wall complete the pouring of the slab begins.

Again these guys work fast!

The wife and I.

The pour continues.

This is my neighbor clyde. Since a concrete crew was already going to be in the area clyde had some walk ways poured in his back yard.

Progress stopped for a few minutes while more concrete trucks got reloaded down at the plant. This gave the guys a chance to take a break. At this point I headed down to the shop for my daily duties. When I got back at 5:00 that afternoon there were still a few guys from the crew finishing up. Talk about a long day!

This picture was taken earlier this morning the day after the pour. No the concrete isn't wet but does have a shine to it. Hardly a flaw in it anywhere. If anyone in the greater sacramento valley is looking to pour some concrete I highly recommend west-cal concrete, 4868 pasadena ave, sacramento, CA (916) 488-1800‎.

Stay tuned for the next build phase of the ihon future headquarters.
