Re: "Mystery" Toggle Switch

Something somebody cobbled in for God only knows why. If there are any wires hooked to it, trace 'em and see what they go to. That's your only slim chance of solving the mystery. Or just remove...

Re: Where to Start

Welcome to the forum. Getting your brakes working well would be a good first step. You can't drive a rig that won't stop safely. Do you have a good assortment of basic tools? Are you at least a...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

I don't know what the genesis of the earlier columns are, if they are proprietary IH or some third party provision.

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

D-line and SII columns are similar in more ways than they are different and share many, but not all the same parts. Same wheels, same horn guts, sometimes even the same turn signal guts depending on...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

IDK@ that. The loudstars are out of my knowledge base. I'd wonder about wheel diameter difference between light and medium trucks. Maybe the same. IDK. I reckon you'll find out soon.

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

If nothing else, you can always get a D-line or SII wheel...same diff...which you know will fit. Not the look you're going for, but at least it's IH shizz.

Re: Mopar small block on IH 727

The IH variant 727 shell bolt pattern is unique to the IH engine family.

The least complex option would be to obtain a complete Mopar small block 727 trans that will mate to your 360. The big...

Oh. That doesn't sound so great. It will be interesting to see what solutions you come up with.

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

I don't know about that. Sounds like it could possibly be more complex and potentially riskier than stem cell replacement. I was thinking you could simply swap levers. That, along with the older...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

I think I'd retain that column. Its probably better than the original. It should accept an earlier wheel and perhaps even the turn signal lever if you were going for original looks. Inspect,...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

Ok. Well, the innards of that TSS look super-corroded and nasty like Shmucky Shmoomer and Ansty in the Pantsy Pelosi have been fornicating inside there for decades. Many issues with rear...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

I'm going to try and help you reconcile your turn signal wiring. I don't have a diagram for your truck, but I do have access to a Scout 800 diagram, which should be close enough. They use the same...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

That column doesn't look quite right to me. By "right" I mean original to the truck. The turn signal lever is much shorter and the knob much smaller than the levers/knobs I've seen in mid-60's IH...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

Not the original steering wheel. I didn't notice that before. I wonder if the steering column is original or a swapped in piece? Got a pic of the interior of your parts truck? Comparison and...

Re: 1965 D1100 4x4 driver/project

Google Retrosound or something similar. The antenna and coax will pick up both am and fm. Have you examined the dash speaker? Usually the voice coil material on those ancient relics has rotted away...

Re: Scout 80 no start with key

If the alt fails the bench test, it will have to be replaced. If you get a new one installed and you see that its making good voltage at the battery with the engine running, you could leave things...

Re: towing a boat...good or bad idea???

If at all possible, I'd want to see how things looked with the trailer hooked up before I committed to it. If the ass squats like its taking a dump in the woods, then the nose is in the air. I...

Re: towing a boat...good or bad idea???

Speed really kills when overloaded, so that would help. Might get away with it fine under those circumstances. The Scout's biggest limitations where towing is concerned is the 100" wheel base and...

Re: towing a boat...good or bad idea???

That's a lot of weight and length for any short wheelbase vehicle to handle. Sure, the hitch and the drive train can handle it, but you'd be likely to experience light steering sensation, if not...

Re: Scout 80 no start with key

The external VR could have been left in place for no purpose as long as the wiring to it had been properly re-routed to bypass it and incorporate the 10si. It becomes a dead weight artifact at that...

Re: Scout 80 no start with key

I see 10DN (external) to 10/12SI (internal) conversion kits that can be purchased online, which look to make this a nearly plug and play process, without having to butcher your existing wiring...

Re: Scout 80 no start with key

No, that is not good. You should be seeing over 13V, even as much as 14V across the battery while the engine is running. Has the charging system on this Scout been updated or does it still have an...
