Re: Cluster F**k

Hi Harry, The only way to raise the oil level, without it being grey, is fuel. The 2 possible sources are a leaking fuel pump diaphragm or flooding carb. What could be happening is the oil is so thin...

Re: 73 Scout grinding while shifting

Usually what is described is a worn out syncro. With it in 3rd and you accelerate then decelerate, how much does the shifter move fore and aft? Much movement over an inch is indicative of wear.

Re: Can't stop from Pinging

It might be time to remove the spark plugs, set #8 on TDC compression stroke and see if the timing mark aligns with 0.

Re: holley 4bbl carbs

There are 100's of different Holley carbs. Give us the LIST number found on the air horn so we can look up what you've got. I'm running LIST 8007 390cfm square bore carb on my Scout's 345.

Re: 71 345 oil pump

One suggestion to speed up the time from start to when there is oil pressure is to replace the O ring where the pickup tube fits into the pump. These to get hard after a few decades. My pump has been...

The Scout2 sliding windows probably use the same channel. Let us know if you find something off list.

I would use it for a spare if the bead does not leak.

Re: Improving T-18 shifter throw?

Experiance, or change to a T-19 where reverse is next to 4th. My wife used to hit reverse when going to 3rd a lot. The T-19 is a lot quieter and has a syncro for 1st gear too. Mine came behind a...

Re: Alternator problem 10si

Also at 500 rpm engine speed a 37 amp 10si puts out a rated 12a the 61 amp puts out 8a. That's a 50% difference. At 650 rpm the output is the same.

Re: Ammeter amp rating?

Adding a shunt on the gauge will reduce the meter reading. If bolting to the terminals on the gauge be careful that it does not get so hot as to damage the gauge or start a fire.

The best way to...

Re: Ammeter amp rating?

First off there are no numbers on the amp meter to begin with, so it is just a relative indication of a little or lot of amps going into or out of the battery. Some of the "calibrated" shunts I've...

Re: Ammeter amp rating?

True a hi-cap alternator will only charge as much as necessary. If you're running an Optima battery and leave the lights on for a couple of hours, the system will see high charge rates for a while....

Re: Ammeter amp rating?

From what I've seen 60-65 amps will peg the meter. Scout Boy's suggestion to use an external shunt is probably the way to go. Just a piece of the right kind of wire between the terminals will shunt...

Re: Alternator problem 10si

Yes a good battery will be almost impossible to push to 15.5v. It will take a couple of hours or more to top off a lead acid battery, particularly if it is sulfated from being discharged for more...
