swapped out the alternator, that was the problem. Everything is good. At 650 (idle) got 13+ volts at battery. At any speed above that, 14.5 (or a little more) . Good deal. I am a happy...

FRICK!

OK- charged the battery overnight. Had 12.6 volts @ cold. Started her up. Alternator still cranking out 15+ volts (sometimes 16+). I am going to swap out the alternator to see of that...

Well, a ground off maybe a 1/16 of material from the water pump. One of the flashings was rubbing. not noticeable. Pulleys turn just fine now. Also, looking through my "parts" I found the attached....

yes, it would, and thanks. I am wondering if there is a "shim" between the water pump and the first pulley? As I mentioned, the first pulley on the water pump (of the three) is of smaller diameter....

an afterthought:

I see that the block is bolted to the firewall through plastic, which means the block itself is not grounded? I think not. I will continue with my overall upgrade/clean/inspect...
