Re: Scout 80 no start with key

Ok, that is still pointing to the switch. Since you can manually jump the hot wire coming into the switch to one of the other positions on the switch and get the starter to work, it sounds like the...

Re: Scout 80 no start with key

Hi Willy, is the new switch you installed an ignition switch, or just an on off switch? Needs at least on, off, and start positions to engage the starter. Another thing to check is the wire going...

Re: Turn Signal indicator constant on.

Don't know if the 79 speedometer clusters are the same as older Scout IIs. Picture is worth a thousand words. The little cardboard pieces are taped in there to keep the different dash lights from...

Re: Can't stop from Pinging

Yeah I know, but running higher octane wont hurt anything but your pocket book. The pinging/detonation on the other hand can do extensive damage if allowed to continue. Adding a bottle of octane...

Re: 73 Scout grinding while shifting

Pull the plug under the arrow. When full should just start dripping out. Passenger/right side of tranny. Drain plug is the lower plug. May want to check your clutch adjustment as well.

Re: Can't stop from Pinging

Might have missed it, but what octane fuel are you running, and have you tried any octane booster? If you look in one of the owners manuals, they recommend "regular gasoline of 92 octane or better".

Re: 258 to T19 bellhousing wanted

Don't have a spare one, but this is what you are looking for. C2 421664. You will also need a special pilot bushing, or a sleeve that gets stuck on the tip of the transmissions input shaft.

Re: New guy need shackle advice

If you go with 30" tires, I would go with the stock length shackles. If the PO did not install caster shims or do a cut and turn when he installed the long shackles, you are probably running about 4...

Re: LEAN DOWN ON DRIVER SIDE

Everything in the pictures looks normal, looks like about a 3/4 inch lowering block on the back passenger side. Measuring the axle tube to ground will basically only measure about half the height of...

Re: tips on bearing pre load

You might want to look into Stage 8 DNA-44 X-lock spindle nuts. Kind of expensive at around 75 bucks a spindle, but you only buy them once, and never have to worry about those stupid bend over tabs...

Re: '73 Scout 2 - 345 will not start

You might also want to check out what is going on over near the firewall bulkhead connectors by the heater box. Looks like someone got creative over there and added a ballast resistor. I'd follow the...

Re: '73 Scout 2 - 345 will not start

If that is gas on the plugs, I would say it is probably flooded, should be able to tell by smelling them. Changing the oil won't help. Pulling all the plugs and letting the cylinders dry out might...

Re: '73 Scout 2 - 345 will not start

Those plugs are pretty wet, so Scoutboy is dead on with checking to make sure you are getting spark. Might want to check the point gap while you are at it, the block that rubs on the distributor cam...

Re: 69 800A - Post Power Steering Swap Steering Wheel

My 72 Scout II came with a big steering wheel, and it has factory power steering. My 75 had an ugly weird shaped steering wheel when I got it. I replaced both with smaller wheels. Both required...

Re: 1980 Scout II swap from diesel to gas

With the wide T19s 6.32:1 first gear, the 3.54s will do fine for everything except extreme rock crawling, and they will also make freeway driving more bearable. If you go with anything larger than 33...

Re: Yes Another Tire Size Question

I had 32 X 11.5s mounted on 10 inch rims with a RC 2.5" lift on my 75 Scout. They never hit on the street, but definitely hit in the back of the rear fender wells when off road. If you just stay on...

Re: New 4in suspension, New problems

How do the front sway bar plate and front shackles look when the Scout is sitting on its wheels? Your old springs were probably pretty worn and sitting flat, which pushes the shackles towards the...

Re: 1976 International pickup

Was running till about 7 or 8 years ago. That's an interesting statement. Did they happen to mention if it was still running when it was parked, or was it parked because the engine seized?

Re: Dinner at The Smokin Pig May 8th at 7:00

Just added some info to my earlier post about the Buckeye Bonanza at Hollister Hills SRVA. Jeff, looks like a good time to come up to Hollister for a weekend - shouldn't be raining in June.

Hollister Hills Off-Road Association is Sponsoring the Buckeye Bonanza first weekend in June (1-3). Have to be a member of HHORA $20 ( http://www.hhora.org/enroll ). It's an organization that looks...

Re: Ride Quality with Rough Country 4" Lift

Spring over by itself will give about a 3" lift - at least the thickness of your axle tubes, so you would probably want the 2.5" or stock springs. The longer shackles usually require caster shims to...

Re: What springs and clips do I need for doors and hatch/tailgate?

Might be this one. Only seen these on one Scout, my 72. Think it's to keep the lift gate strap from hinging the wrong way.

Re: Door lock tumbler installation removal

No worries, I think it was your Bro when I dropped him at his truck up at the obstacle course. Holy crap, there's about 1/16 of an inch of material gone in that one you had pop out (the lip on the...
