Re: Scout II 4-cyl EFI installations

Mark I think one from a D series pickup would be what you want. You'll get the right sized hole and depending on the year you won't have all the smog stuff if not needed. It'll also be a lot easier...

Re: Rockers Welded vs. boat style

If I can get a rocker under a microscope what would one look for?

Re: Rockers Welded vs. boat style

They are brand new springs that came with the Comp cam's kit. That said, this rocker shaft did come off an engine that suffered a broken intake valve spring on cylinder 1 which is the first rocker...

Re: Rockers Welded vs. boat style

Bearings and shaft are in great shape. Lots of fresh oil there too.

Re: Delco 10si Alternator question

I think that is a resistor for cutting the field current for low rates of charging. I've rebuilt a bunch of these alternators easy peasy. O'Riley auto parts used to stock a kit with all the necessary...

Re: Not starting

Check to see that you have 12v to the neutral safety switch and that the switch has continuity when in P or N.

Re: What's an IHC Teapot carburetor?

A similar 2B carb was on a B160 dump truck I had. It was on a 264 engine and there was never a bit of problems with it, even with all the rusty gas it was fed.

Re: Mid-50's IH engine and parts

We need to know a little more about which engine it is. Since you reference "the head" is it an Inline 6? What displacement?

Re: Surging 392

Glad to here it's fixed. There are just passages in a metering block, so they may have plugged with the same debris as the jets. Enjoy the family and your running Scout. Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: Surging 392

Your photo's came through as text files, so we can't see them. Half plugged main jets would definitely do what you describe. 4.5 is reasonable on the PV.

Re: Rockers Welded vs. boat style

Jeff, 20k on the heads just like the rest of the engine. This engine has done some hard towing too. Although it was just a smooth cruse down the freeway when these broke.

Kenny, yes the tips were...

Re: Rockers Welded vs. boat style

Stock push rods and I'm running 1 to 2 tanks of gas through the Scout in a week, it is still my daily driver. And even more odd is that the broken rockers were on adjacent cylinders (1 & 3). This...

Re: always surgeing

The records I have show that IH used 2.5 PV's in the carb on the 392. In a heavy vehicle/truck a lot of time could be spent with the PV open. Instead they jetted a bit on the rich side and opened the...

Re: always surgeing

The accelerator pump and power valve should have no effect on the fuel mixture if it is surging while cruising on flat ground. I did some extensive tuning work on a new Holley 390cfm carb and now...

Re: Rockers Welded vs. boat style

So I'm driving down the same stretch of freeway, 300 mi later and tap, tap, tap she goes again. The sound is coming from the same side and after pulling the valve cover, I find another intake rocker...

Re: Looking for a balancer for a 152

Man the caked dirt on that engine looks similar to the engine in the Loadstar before it was pressure washed.

Re: Fuse Block upgrade?

After bending the fuse holder clips on my Scout to hold the fuses tighter the continuity issues went away. Gave it a shot of contact cleaner too.

Re: Fuse Block upgrade?

I was thinking of something like that too. More connections won't make things more reliable and there are several different sizes needed. Are glass fuses getting hard to find?

Re: Swapping 78 disk brakes to 71 scout two

It doesn't sound like you've got a Scout axle in the 78. The 71 will have a D30, the 78 (if that's what it is) will have a D44 which is a stronger axle. Looks like the best option might be to regear...

Re: 2WD Front Axle Flip - Stupid... or Genius?

There probably is a degree or so of camber designed into that axle. Some camber shims will fix it.

Re: 1977 traveller dies when I stop or when I put into gear

That Motocraft carb is not bad and is real easy to rebuild. I've got a 304 that is setup with the same carb, but I've never run it.

Dieing at idle could be a whole bunch of different issues....

Re: 1977 wiper worries

From the OP's description of high electrical load on the system, I'd hazard a guess that one of the windings is shorted. Rewinding a motor is a rather challenging task. Hopefully it is just a short...

Re: 1977 wiper worries

Sounds like there might be a short in the motor, unless the linkage is binding.
