Ugly little 78 4banger that was most likely saved from a big lift and a GM engine. Runs 70mph at 3200rpm. Standard with granny low. Gets about 23mpg at 60mph. Doubt I'll get it any better. Very good low end and keeps up just fine with my buddies rigs when I cant afford to put gas in my terra :(
has some good dings and rust. Looks like the only owner tried his hardest to stop the rust, thank god.
As u can see its my kayaking rig. Goes down to the river and gets back out. Thats all I need it to do.

Looking foward to taking it to rmihr this year with my terra

Well it happened. That Holley 1bbl carb pooped out on me. Looks like someone had "rebuilt it" and stripped out a bowl screw. Broke the vacuum and poof. There goes the neighborhood. I was in lubbock tx when this happened and had to limp it 350 miles home to lamar co. I lack the money and resources that alot of other people do so I was distressed. Went digging and found out my friend had scrapped his 300 straight 6 out of his f150. It had the carter 1bbl on it. Looked good so I put it on and prayed. Im sure people have done this conversion before so im not saying anything new. But if anyone has any heads ups about problems with this conversion I would appreciate it.

The carb is about 3in taller so I cut my air cleaner and the air cleaner screw down. Hood still doesnt clear it perfectly but its good enough. Didnt like the fugly Ford air cleaner so I used mine. So far so good. Its running smooth. Didnt have the money for a webber 2bbl and I didnt have the time to order a new carb period

It will be interesting to see how the mpg holds up. 23 is pretty good for a Scout!

Its the carter ck45, I know nothing about carters except my old thermoquad. I filled it up and drove 30miles. My dads and back. Put just under 1.5 gallons in. 1.437. So almost 21mpg. And that was alot of in town driving. Looks like the mpg's are doing ok. Im just crossing my fingers hoping it doesnt blow up.

Bleepin bleep bleep bleeper bleep bleep. Thats what I've been saying all day. New carb works great. But on 110 degree days the p.o.s. Scout vapor locks. The fuel pump is weak. Already knew that. But now its gone. Found my Holley electric fuel pump. Have to put it on tomorrow. Not having fun anymore. Anyone want a 4banger?

What we do when we're bored. The pumpkin now has no smog equipment, 3.73's, and some ugly terra top. It has the terra's rims and tires. And soon the traveler's tilt wheel and power steering pump.

They dont look horrible but when my friends are sitting in the back seat and trying to get my attention by beating on the back glass it makes you wish for a bulkhead and less friends :gringrin:

Not sure if u can call what I did an update. But I had to put her back together for the winter. Put some clean bucket seats in it out of a pontiac. There was no way to get my original air cleaner to fit comfortably so I sucked up my pride and made the Ford one look as cool as I could. Probably failed miserably. Then I decided since I dont have a fan shroud anyways I might as well throw on a nice flex fan so it looks cool.

Cute little pumpkin. But why a flex fan? Hate to be anal about it, but I think those things should be banned, so I run clear of those things. I have seen them eat radiators for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ask vancetator here in the forum. He has a post lingering around these parts about a new aluminum radiator getting chewed up by a flex fan.

Holy christ why would that thing eat up my radiator. The damn thing doesnt come near my radiator. About 6in in there. 1 it was free. 2 its half the weight of my other. And 3 it was really shiny. The hot rod builder in me likes shiny

Went and reviewed the post. As you can tell this little vehicle is not an offroader. With a 196 ci torque monster its just my putt putt truck. However scooter I will take what you said into great consideration. I have a narrow spacer it appears because I can comfortably fit my extremely large hands with a balled up fist between the radiator and the fan. I'll look here on IHPA for perhaps a lighter fan than my stock lawnmower blades and before the flex fan a elec fan was in the mix

The problem with the flex fan's is when there is a catastrophic dissassembly. Which due their light weight construction is a high probability.

Also in IH applications they are known to not provide enough cooling airflow under heavy load conditions. At least with the v8's, your 4 banger May be ok. A clutch fan is a better option for economy and engine noise.

You be suprised at how much those things flex. Not only that, the awfull whinning noise that goes with them will definately get annoying. That 4 banger will sound like it's wissling a terrible tune every time you try to get up to speed. Understandable about vance's rig being an offroader rig. There maybe enough space for what you currently have, but as chappie mentioned, I would hate to see the horrid miss hap to the un expected tune.

Anyways, as I mentioned, cute pumpkin. I been working on a 62 of a slightly different version of said color. Which will be leaving my space mid day today.

Hmm understood. I figured in an engine that doesnt spin above 3400rpms id be relativly safe. But I guess ill keep my eye open for other options
